Blowfish Theatre Casting Call
We are seeking a female-identifying performer to join our 2021 spring tour
Blowfish Theatre make satirical musicals about contemporary politics. We are currently looking for a female-identifying performer to join the company for our spring 2021 tour.
You will be completing a cast of four for our brand new show, Boris the Musical 3: The Johnson Supremacy. We work as a very tight-knit and flexible ensemble, so you should be enthusiastic about trying new things and willing to experiment creatively. Do you like fizzing with ideas in the rehearsal room? Then we're the company for you! As a performer, you should be able to demonstrate strong, versatile vocals and good comic timing. As a colleague, we're looking for someone committed, reliable and friendly. In past productions, you might have been twerking with Jacob Rees-Mogg in one scene, and leading a 'Church of Brexit' revival as Michael Gove in the next. Who knows who you'll end up playing in our next show. It’ll be so up to date, even we don’t know yet. As a company, we operate a colour and gender-blind casting policy. You will be touring with an established group of performers and pals. We’re a friendly and chilled-out bunch and are looking for someone similar. It’s important to us that we have fun off stage as well as on. So first round’s on us! |

2021 Uncertainty
We appreciate this is a less than full picture. Unfortunately, due to the continuing uncertainly around the pandemic, we anticipate that our final plans will remain unclear for some time. Please do feel free to get in touch to discuss next year’s tour in more detail. Drop our Artistic Director Laurence a line at [email protected] for a friendly chat.

Rehearsals
We plan to rehearse the show over January and February. We tend to rehearse a new show over two to three weeks but split into week-long sessions, with breaks in between. Rehearsals will take place in Sheffield. Precise dates have not yet been confirmed and we are very happy to accommodate existing obligations where possible.

Remuneration
Blowfish Theatre Ltd operates a combination of guaranteed payment upfront and post-box office profit share.
For our 2021 spring tour, you will receive £225 a month from February to May (inclusive). Thereafter, you will receive 13% of all net box office profits.
Further details of this arrangement are outlined in the contract. You can see an example of last year’s contract here.
All members of the company are remunerated using the same process. We’re more than happy to answer any questions about our professional practice in this regard.
Travel expenses are reimbursed for all reasonable tour travel. Accommodation is also provided for all tour dates. By accommodation, we mean a room of your own in a house shared with other company members. It’s not glamorous but it is cosy and secure.
We have company members from the south coast to Scotland, and we tour quite widely too. So having your own transport is handy but by no means essential.

Auditions will take place remotely and will be a combination of pre-recorded material and live zoom chats (or whatever app floats your boat). You will principally be asked to perform small sections of our past shows.
Spotlight profiles or any existing video material which shows you at your best (including demonstrating the performance characteristics outlined above) are also very welcome.

Get in Touch!
We’re really excited to get back on the road and into theatres next year. We love bringing topical shows to eager audiences and capturing something of the national mood on stage. We think next year there’s going be even more ‘mood’ than usual!
If you’d like to be part of that in 2021 then do get in touch, either to request full audition materials or, in the first instance, to have an informal chat about any of the information (or lack thereof) above.
Please send all queries and expressions of interest to [email protected]
Closing date, 16th October
We look forward to hearing from you,
Blowfish Theatre
